Vanity Fare

Total record sales over 5 million. Awarded 2 Gold discs.

It was during the cold, wet summer of '68 that things were made brighter by the emergence of a brilliant new group from Kent called VANITY FARE.

Their first record, "I LIVE FOR THE SUN" shot into the Top Twenty in August'68 and stayed there for nine weeks.

They soon established regular chart success when their next two singles, "HITCHIN' A RIDE" and "EARLY IN THE MORNING" went gold with sales of over 4 million.

Other hits soon followed including favourites like "CAROLINA'S COMING HOME", "ROCK AND ROLL IS BACK", "TAKE IT SHAKE IT" and "BETTER BY FAR" and the band have recorded and released over twenty singles and eight albums.

Their success in America was heightened when "HITCHIN' A RIDE" was adopted as a cult song by many of the West Coast DJs and started the "HITCH-HIKE" dance craze. Highlights of their career include television appearances with the Mamas and Papas and an invite from the Beach Boys to guest on their 1968/69 World Tour.

Their undoubted success has led them to perform at many prestigious venues around the world, including the Paris Olympia, Sydney Show Ground, Royal Albert Hall and London Palladium. They have also appeared on over 100 TV shows including TOP OF THE POPS and WOGAN.

The band's current stage show reflects much of their 25 year history and includes many of their own hits and a varied selection of the best of 60's music including the Beach Boys, the Beatles and the Byrds.
